Rwoth Ubimu Philip Olarker Rauni III has urged his subjects in Ker Alur Kingdom and the diaspora to work positively towards developing Alur.

He made the call during a virtual conference organised by the Alur in the diaspora, led by the US chapter on Saturday, February 18, 2023, under the theme: The Diaspora and Opportunities for Investment in the Alur Kingdom.

Ubimi also called on all Alur, supporters and well-wishers all over the globe to vigorously support the development and integrity of Alur land and its contribution to Uganda.

Ubimu, who was making his first diaspora engagement from Houston-Texas, US, asked the Alur to put aside their differences and doubts and actively participate to make greater Nebbi: The breadbasket of the region as it used to be in the past. He thanked the organisers for the great turn-up.

Former Alur Kingdom premier and now Ker Alur executive director Vincent Ochaya also travelled with Ubimu and addressed the diaspora too.

Ochaya said there is a need for meaningful and effective linkages between the diaspora and the Alur Kingdom and laid out the various opportunities for development under the Kingdom's strategic plan.

During the conference, Ubimu also announced the appointment of New Jersey-based Patrick Oyulu as the Ker Alur envoy to US tasked with mobilising the North American chapter of the diaspora towards great causes for the Ker Alur Kingdom.

The Virtual Conference, which was attended by Alurs from the US, UK, Uganda, West Africa, Australia and New Zealand, also had speeches from the Queen Mother Mrs Rotzette Keronega and prominent Alur in the diaspora and in Uganda.

Ubimu is the 33rd king in the hereditary order from Nyipir since 1430 following the Luo migration.

Alur Kingdom has 64 chiefdoms (eight in the Democratic Republic of Congo and 56 in Uganda) with an estimated population of 800,000 in Uganda and eight million in DRC.
