KAMPALA - The Mothers’ Union of Namirembe Diocese has been boosted in its fundraising initiative to support the completion of the Mothers’ Union House.

A collaboration between St Catherine Hospital and MTN Uganda is expected to power the upcoming Mothers’ Union Charity Run on June 7, 2025.

The event, which is also supported by Vision Group, aims to raise shillings 400 million towards the ongoing construction of the Union’s headquarters in Namirembe, projected to cost sh.12 billion in total.

Biingi Roseline Kawiso, the president of the Mothers’ Union for Namirembe Diocese’s Central Region, said the run symbolises more than just fitness—it is a call to restore broken families and, through them, the nation. She was speaking during the launch of the Run at St Catherine Hospital on Lumumba Avenue in Kampala city on May 21.

Kawiso said the Mothers’ Union House, now progressing to its second floor, will become a centre for counselling and family support services—providing guidance on marriage, parenting and domestic wellbeing.

“Mothers’ Union is about family—within the Church and beyond,” she said. “We believe that if we raise our families well, our country will thrive. Many of the problems we face today—violence, crime, moral decay—stem from broken homes and unparented children.”

According to her, there is need to ask who is guiding the wild youth in the country. "If we as parents and community leaders don’t step in, society will continue to bleed.”
St Catherine Hospital general manager Peter Muganga, who pledged the hospital's medical and logistical support for the event, said.

“St Catherine is a faith-based, family-based institution. We have always aligned with causes that promote societal well-being. This run speaks to our core values—faith, family, and health.”

He added that the hospital would purchase running kits for participating staff and engage in ongoing conversations with the Mothers’ Union for a long-term partnership.

Also present was Ronald Muwaya Stuart from MTN Uganda, who contributed shillings five million towards the purchase of run kits. He urged Ugandans—especially fathers—to support their spouses and families in taking part.

“As MTN, we believe in connecting people, and what better way to connect than through strong, healthy families?”

He encouraged participants to register via MTN Mobile Money: “By dialling 1653*761959#, you can pay shillings 25,000 to secure your kit. Kits can be collected from any HD Corner near your residence or directly at the Mothers’ Union House in Namirembe.”

“We are calling upon all people,” Kawiso said. “From the public to private bodies—even people in professions that are often overlooked or stigmatised—this house is for everyone who believes in the power of a restored home.”

With this inaugural run, the Mothers’ Union is laying the foundation for a cultural and moral revival in Uganda. If successful, the event could serve as a model for community-driven development across the country.

As the countdown to 7th June continues, the Mothers’ Union is rallying all sectors of society—churches, businesses, families, and individuals—to support the cause.
