TRIBUTE 

WINDHOEK - Former Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda Saturday represented President Yoweri Museveni at the burial of former Namibian president Hage Gottfried Geingob in Windhoek.

Rugunda was accompanied by Paul Amoru, Uganda's High Commissioner to Southern Africa, and foreign affairs permanent secretary Vincent Bagiire, among other officials.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Amoru said: "Our delegation, including Hon. Vincent Bagiire Waiswa - PS MoFA, myself, our Honorary Consul to Namibia Prince Ndawula Joseph, Mrs. Joan Kategeya and Mr. Obal Daniel - presidential aid on youth stood in solidarity."

"President Geingob's legacy of freedom and unity in Africa will live on in our hearts," Amoru added.

Geingob died early this month, aged 82.

The burial drew other leaders from East African countries such as Kenya, Tanzania, and Burundi.

According to media in Namibia, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan attended the funeral accompanied by former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete and Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Vice-Chairman (Mainland), Abdulrahman Kinana.

"Other heads of state from the bloc in attendance included Kenya’s Dr. William Ruto and Burundi’s Evariste Ndayishimiye," the media in Windhoek added.

Prior to his death, Geingob was in charge of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and COMESA member states for close to 10 years.
