Rubaga Cathedral renovations 'on track' as faithful urged to fund final phase

“We are remaining with less than 60 days, but I am sure we shall finish all the proposed renovations on the Cathedral before October 26, the day of the grand celebration. Yours is to bring the money, ours is to deliver a fully-renovated house of God,”

The chairman of the organising committee for the Centenary of Rubaga Cathedral, Eng. Pius Mugalaasi has assured the Catholic faithful that the proposed renovations on the cathedral will be completed by October 26 this year as planned.

He, however, appealed to Catholics and all Ugandans of goodwill to continue donating money to ensure the project is delivered without disappointment.

“We are remaining with less than 60 days, but I am sure we shall finish all the proposed renovations on the Cathedral before October 26, the day of the grand celebration. Yours is to bring the money, ours is to deliver a fully-renovated house of God,” Mugalaasi said.

He made the remarks during a guided tour of the ongoing redevelopment works at the cathedral on September 3, 2025.

Mugalaasi revealed that about sh1.4bn had so far been collected, with approximately sh1bn still required to meet the budget.

The Vicar General of Kampala Archdiocese, Msgr Rogers Kabuye, paid tribute to individual Christians, institutions and organisations that had contributed money and building materials, praising their generosity.
