A total of 45 lives were tragically lost in road crashes between Holy Thursday, March 28 and Easter Monday, April 1, the Traffic Police have said.
Additionally, 125 individuals sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment at various healthcare facilities nationwide, according to Traffic Police spokesperson Micheal Kananura.
Kananura disclosed that among the fatalities, 22 were motorcycle riders, 10 were pedestrians and five were passengers on motorcycles.
Addressing journalists on Tuesday, Kananura highlighted that the Kampala metropolitan policing areas experienced the highest number of road crashes during the period, followed by the Albertine region and Wamala.
Over 700 drivers arrested
Furthermore, 786 drivers were arrested for speeding, driving without licences and forged documents, particularly on highways, underscoring the need for heightened vigilance and adherence to traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies on the roads.
