Tensions flared in Terego District’s Rhino Camp Refugee Settlement on Sunday, as a communal clash erupted between the Nyirol and Fangak clans, both of Nuer origin.

The conflict reportedly stemmed from a dispute involving Nyakuma Majok of the Nyirol clan, who was allegedly impregnated by David Lam of the Fangak clan, sparking outrage among the communities.

Majok was reportedly sent back to South Sudan following the incident, but tensions in the communities escalated further on December 29 when her brother, identified only as Makuach, allegedly assaulted Lam at Ocea Trading Centre.

During the altercation, one woman, returning from church, sustained injuries.

The West Nile Police public relations officer, Collins Asea, says although the suspects fled into nearby bushes, efforts are underway to locate and apprehend those involved.

He appealed to all parties to remain calm and refrain from any retaliatory actions.
