Researchers across the country have been urged to focus on solution-finding-based research in order to ensure the development of communities.

According to Makerere University School of Public Health deputy dean Prof. Elizeus Rutebemberwa, research should aim at bettering societies and combating community challenges. This, he said would help society develop at faster rates.

"Problems of today are because of the mistakes done in the past; we should now focus on carrying our research for future generations,"  Rutebemberwa says.

Rutebemberwa noted that the major role of research institutions is to find solutions that will propel the country to the future. He, however, said that the problem with researchers is tending to think that their only work is to do research and that solutions should be done by others.

"We need to come out of this baby syndrome and instead work to find solutions to community challenges," he said.

He added that several communities suffer with multiple forms of injustice, but claimed that research institutions have not been vocal in tracing possible solutions.

He demanded that institutions join efforts with the government to ensure deserved support is reached on.
