Religious leaders in Tororo have been cautioned against fighting the government and looking for materialistic gains but should focus on fighting moral decay.
The head of the Pentecostal Outreach Ministries in Tororo District, Girado Olukol said many times some church leaders have deviated from their roles of spiritual nourishment and instead became too political causing divisions amongst the Christians.
Flanked by his vice chairperson, Bishop George Samuel Bogere Egesa of Bukedi diocese, Olukol made the remarks while ordaining Fred Epiat and his wife Sabana Samali Epiat as church ministers at his Pentecostal Outreach Ministries International on Easter Sunday.
Egesa said although they are so many mushrooming churches, the crime rate is very high, an indication that religious leaders are not doing their best to fight the devil.
Egesa condemned increased cases of murder, which he said are reported every week while calling upon the police to carry out forensic audit and curb the crime following the gruesome murder of 22-year-old girl. Her killers first raped her before ending her life.
He also appealed to all the Christians to embrace and support government programmes intended to benefit them instead of being serious critics of any development.
Delivering Easter Sunday sermons at St Peter’s Cathedral, Egesa equally called on all the Christians to promote love for each, unity, tolerance and encouraged all of them to respond to COVID-19 vaccination exercise.
He also appealed to the parents to play their roles of guiding the children instead of leaving them to live like destitute.
