Regional efforts to restore peace and stability in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have gained fresh momentum as the African Union, East African Community (EAC) and Southern African Development Community (SADC) Panel of Facilitators convene a high-level working session at State House, Entebbe, Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

The meeting is part of an ongoing regional initiative aimed at deepening dialogue and reinforcing collective responsibility in resolving one of the region’s most protracted conflicts.

The engagement is being led by Togo President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, who heads the Panel of Facilitators overseeing the DRC peace process.

President Gnassingbé arrived in Entebbe earlier Tuesday (February 3), accompanied by senior officials, with more delegates from the region expected to join the deliberations.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni personally welcomed the Togolese leader before both leaders proceeded to the venue for the closed-door discussions.

Several senior Ugandan leaders are already in attendance, including former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi, Minister of Security Jim Muhwezi, Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs Jacob Oboth Oboth, and state minister for foreign affairs in charge of regional cooperation, John Mulimba.

Their participation reflects Uganda’s active role in regional diplomacy and conflict resolution frameworks under both continental and sub-regional mechanisms.

Today’s meeting is expected to review progress made so far and explore practical steps to reinvigorate the peace roadmap amid evolving regional dynamics.
