PRESIDENT | MUSEVENI | PORTRAIT 

KAMPALA - Ministries, statutory bodies, and local government units have been instructed to pull down all the old portraits of President Yoweri Museveni in their respective offices and replace them with a new one. 

The new President’s official portrait that has been approved for his new political term of office that officially started on May 12, 2021 has the President wearing a large hat and in a casual white shirt, instead of the old one where he is putting on a jacket and wearing a necktie, without a hat.  

Hajji Yunus Kakande, the Permanent Secretary Office of the President said that despite a circular he issued to all permanent secretaries, executive directors of statutory authorities and state enterprises and chief administrative officers at districts on May 14, 2021, there were still a number of them still hanging the old portrait. 

“I am writing to inform you that following the swearing in and inaugural ceremonies of the President held on Wednesday, 12th May 2021 at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, H.E the President endorsed for publication of a new official portrait to be used in all public offices,” the circular stated.  

Kakande said that as a standard practice, the new Presidential portrait takes precedence over any other portraits hitherto held in all ministries, departments, agencies, and local governments as well as missions abroad.   

“The purpose of this letter, therefore, is to urge you to display the new Presidential portrait,” he said. 

According to the circular, for purposes of standardization, he asked the offices to place their orders with the Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) at Entebbe.  

He copied the circular to the head of public service and secretary to the cabinet, John Mitala, among others.  

According to Kakande, the new portrait is a landmark symbolizing a transition from the old term to a new term that goes up to 2026.
