For people to be adequately served, it is important to understand what kind of services suites them, the Principal Judge, Dr Flavian Zeija, has said.

He made the remarks today, April 7, 2024, while highlighting why the upcoming court open day is important. The Judiciary’s much-anticipated national annual court open day is scheduled for April 15, 2024, at Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala.

“Having a national court open day would give the Judiciary a national mileage in terms of outlook and national feedback,” Zeija said.

The Principal Judge said on that day, the Judiciary will showcase what it has been doing, receive feedback from the public on court services in their areas and interact with them.

According to Judiciary spokesperson James Jumire Ereemye Mawanda, the initiative is aimed at bridging a gap between the public and the Judiciary, allowing citizens to interact with different justice actors, understand court processes, and provide crucial feedback.

Mawanda said the Judiciary will also demonstrate and sensitize the public on different court processes.

Mawanda also said there will be exhibitions by the Judiciary and different justice institutions such as the Uganda Police Force, Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, and other prosecuting agencies, Uganda Prison Services, among others.

The Inspector General of Government and other legal Service providers are also expected to turn up for the event.

The Justices of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, and judges from the seven High Court Divisions are expected to gather at Kololo to interact with Ugandan citizens on issues regarding justice in the courts of law.
