Prof. Kateregga lauds Museveni over scouts’ movement

KAMPALA - The newly appointed Chief Scout of Uganda, Pro. Badru Dungu Kateregga has lauded President Yoweri Museveni for the wise direction of the scouts’ movement.

Kateregga, also the Vice Chancellor of Kampala University said it has been Museveni's effort that scouts engage in environmental protection and help youth integrate into various productive activities.

“I wish to take the chance to sincerely thank our Patron H.E the President for the wise direction of the scouts movement and all support rendered always,” Prof. Kateregga remarked.

The academic, Kateregga, also appreciated the First Lady and the Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataha Museveni, his predecessor Maggie Kigozi and the Scouts Chief Commissioner, Gen. Katumba Wamala for the job well done in promoting scouting at all levels.

“I promise to work well with everyone and do whatever possible to propel our community to greater heights,” pledged Kateregga, adding that he has always tried his best to promote scouting at all levels.

Kateregga’s appointment to the position was made on August 17, 2022, during the closing ceremony of the National Scouts’ Camp at Kaazi camping site in Wakiso district, an event that was officiated by President Museveni.

At the function, President Museveni pronounced that March 13 of every year will be set aside to interact with leaders of the scouts movement and promised to follow up on the sh2b request meant to support scouts' projects.

Who is Kateregga?

A born in Kabasanda village, in present-day Butambala district in Central Uganda to Hajat Aisha Namusoke and the late Hajj Kateregga, Kateregga is a Ugandan academic, entrepreneur and academic administrator, who serves as the Vice Chancellor, Kampala University, a private university that he co-founded.

He was appointed Chief Scout of Uganda on August 17, 2022, replacing renowned businesswoman Prof. Maggie Kigozi who served in the same position for eight years.

He attended Kabasanda Primary School, between 1956 to 1964, graduating with a Primary Leaving Certificate. 

He then transferred to Kabasanda Junior Secondary School, graduating with a Junior Leaving Certificate in 1967. 

He obtained a High School Diploma in 1969 from Kibuli Secondary School, specializing in Arts subjects.

In 1970, he was admitted to Makerere University, Uganda's oldest and largest public university, where he studied History, Religious Studies and Philosophy. 

He graduated three years later with a Bachelor of Arts degree. 

He obtained a Master of Arts degree from the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London, specializing in the History of the Middle East and Islamic studies.

In 2010, the Senate of Kampala University awarded him a Doctor of Letters degree.
