Prof. Anguma to assume VC role at Muni University’s 6th graduation

Preparations are in high gear at Muni University ahead of the institution’s 6th graduation ceremony and installation of its second-ever vice chancellor.

Muni, the 6th public university in the country started in 2013, is scheduled to have the two events on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the Graduation Square to be presided over by the university chancellor Archbishop Emeritus Henry Luke Orombi.

Associate Prof. Simon Anguma Katrini will be officially installed as the vice-chancellor of the university replacing the late Prof. Christine Dranzoa who died in January 2022.

The chief guest is expected to be First Lady Janet Museveni, also the Minister of Education and Sports.

During the graduation, 143 students (99 males, 44 females) will be conferred upon various diplomas, and bachelor’s degrees from seven academic programs and seven of whom will be graduating with first-class degrees.

The first cohort of 11 master's students are also expected to be conferred upon with masters of education in education planning and management of which six are females.

Acting vice chancellor Assoc. Prof. Anguma said after Saturday’s ceremony, the university will have produced 782 graduates in the job market of which only 26.1 percent (204 students) are females.

 

The university secretary and also the accounting officer, Emmanuel Banya Natal, said the two ceremonies will require about sh28 million and credited the increasing number enrolment to the high quality of graduates being produced.

He said most organisations and institutions where their students go for internship want them to remain permanently.

Dean of students Stella Amandru said the university is growing in all aspects including academics, sports, leadership, among others.

According to her, they are readily prepared to showcase what the university is capable of producing on graduation day including unveiling their entertainment team.

Muni University will on November 4 this year mark exactly 10 years since the first academic programs were rolled out at the institution.

The university that started with 87 students in 2014 now has a total enrolment of 1,396 students in 30 programmes from its six faculties.
