“The global theme for International Women's Day 2024, “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,” emphasises the vital role women play in driving economic growth and societal well-being. Yet, despite remarkable progress, significant barriers continue to prevent women from fully participating in the economy,” he said during the launch on February 15 in Kampala.

“The PSFU, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, recognizes these challenges and actively seeks to address them through initiatives like the Young Africa Works - Enhancing Lead Firm Structure for Youth Employment in Uganda Project (LFS). This project, with a specific focus on empowering young women, aligns perfectly with the spirit of the Katale.”

The Katale presents numerous advantages for participating women entrepreneurs, including a platform to exhibit their products and services to a diverse audience, thereby expanding their market reach and visibility. Additionally, tailored business clinics and individual interactions with experts equip them with invaluable knowledge and skills vital for business success.

Other benefits include; meaningful connections with other accomplished women entrepreneurs, mentors, and industry experts, fostering collaboration and professional development.

“Investing in women is not just a moral imperative, it is a sound economic strategy. By empowering women entrepreneurs, we unlock their full potential, driving economic growth, creating jobs, and fostering a more equitable and prosperous society,” Asiimwe said.

Sarah Kagingo, the vice chair board at PSFU said the event will feature business clinics led by industry experts, a One-Stop-Centre facilitated by key government agencies and banks, and a platform for women entrepreneurs to showcase their products and services, expanding their market reach and forging valuable connections.

“I am confident that the Women’s Day Katale 2024 will empower hundreds of women with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive, bridge the economic gap for women in Uganda, and inspire a new generation of female leaders,” she said.
