In the coming financial year, President Yoweri Museveni is to embark on a campaign to get rid of those sabotaging government's program of Universal Primary and Secondary Education across the country.

This follows reports from residents of Nyenga to the President who was on his way to the venue for the NRM Day celebrations in Jinja, that most of their children are out of school due to lack of school fees.

Residents told the President that although education in government schools is free, school heads and PTA boards continue expelling children from school due to lack of school fees.

“We have been sending capitation grants but head teachers and PTA don’t respect that, they take the money and send away children due to school fees,” he added.

While addressing the gathering at Waikitaka, Museveni said that the government has been sending capitation grants to schools which should help facilitate education for all, he also called for support from the public to address this concern.

“In the coming financial years, we are going to start a new campaign on this issue. I want support from all of you so that we don’t tolerate anybody sabotaging this program. This was free information from the wananchi whom we met at Nyenga,” Museveni said.

He added it is the responsibility of the government to educate children of parents who cannot afford it. If poor parents cannot support their children in schools, the government becomes the parent, hence free education.

He observed on Friday while officiating at the 38th NRM Day celebrations, in Waikitaka Primary School playground in the Northern Division of Jinja City.

This year’s celebrations are running under the theme “Building a Uganda that we all cherish”.
