President Yoweri Museveni has expressed solidarity with the Muslim community in Uganda and the world over as they celebrate Eid Adhuha.

“I join the Muslim Community in Uganda and across the world in the celebration of Eid al- Adha or the Festival of the Sacrifice. This is the day when our Muslim brothers commemorate Prophet Ibrahim’s portrayal of total faith and obedience to Allah when he accepted to sacrifice his only child Ismail,” Museveni said in a message to the Muslim fraternity Monday evening (July 19).

Eid al-Adha, Arabic for Festival of the Sacrifice, is the latter of the two official holidays celebrated within Islam.

It honours the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of obedience to God's command. Before Ibrahim could sacrifice his son, however, Allah provided a lamb to sacrifice instead.

The President urged the faithful to emulate Prophet Ibrahim by showing total devotion and submission to the will of Allah.

Museveni noted that the First Lady, Janet Museveni, joined him in wishing the Muslim community good Eid day prayers and celebrations.

However, the President urged the Muslims to observe Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) during the Eid day celebrations, noting that this is the only way the country will defeat the COVID-19 monster.
