KAMPALA - President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has held talks with the President of the Republic of Togo, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, whom he hosted earlier today (Tuesday, April 22) at State Lodge, Nakasero.
The two leaders held discussions on matters of mutual interest, focusing on regional security and strengthening bilateral ties.
A release from the Presidential Press Unit (PPU) also revealed that Museveni emphasised the importance of unity among African nations in addressing security challenges and advancing development goals.
"I welcomed H.E. Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, the President of Togo, who is here on a working visit. We discussed issues of mutual interest between our two countries and regional security," reads a post on President Museveni's official site, social media X.

The PPU release states that dignitaries at the meeting were: John Patrick Amama Mbabazi, the former Prime Minister of Uganda, Gen. Jeje Odongo, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Frank Tumwebaze, the Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Mr. Robert Dussey, the Togo Minister of Foreign Affairs. Ambassador Joseph Ocwet, the Director General of the External Security Organisation (ESO) and several officials of the Lome delegation.
Gnassingbé was last in Uganda in March 2023 for an official visit.
“I came to hold deep discussions with President Museveni on matters of security and terrorism and how we can combine efforts in dealing with the challenges”, he said, according to a brief issued on March 03.
He also thanked his host for "always being available to share his experiences in as far as security and governance".

On the first day of his visit, the two leaders held a tête-à-tête meeting where they discussed, among other things, the security situation in West Africa..
In a related engagement with their respective delegations, President Museveni and his visiting counterpart highlighted the need for the two countries to come together and share experiences if they are to overcome challenges faced by not only Uganda and Togo but all African countries.
During his stay in 2023, President Gnassingbe and his delegation were also hosted at a dinner at State House, Entebbe.
