Premier Nabbanja woos Japanese investors at Independence Day fete in Tokyo

In her keynote address, Prime Minister Nabbanja expressed Uganda’s gratitude to the Government and people of Japan for their exceptional hospitality and for hosting a remarkable World Osaka Expo that has lasted six months and is set to conclude on 13th October 2025.

PM Nabbanja invited investors to tap into priority sectors such as: Agro-industrialisation; Tourism Development; Mineral Development, Oil and Gas; and Science, Technology, and Innovation.

TOKYO - Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja presided over a colourful Uganda National Day celebration on the sidelines of the World Expo 2025 in Osaka Kansai to advertise investment opportunities back home.

The event, attended by Japanese government officials, business leaders, the diplomatic community and members of the public, served as a powerful platform to highlight Uganda’s significant progress as a premier investment destination.

A release from the  Uganda mission in Tokyo states that the  Government of Japan was represented by Yoshitaka ITO, Minister in charge of the World Expo 2025.

In her keynote address, Prime Minister Nabbanja expressed Uganda’s gratitude to the Government and people of Japan for their exceptional hospitality and for hosting a remarkable World Osaka Expo that has lasted six months and is set to conclude on 13th October 2025.

Recalling the sub-theme of the Expo, “Empowering Lives”, she noted that it reflects the Government of Uganda’s commitment to improving the quality of life for all Ugandans, particularly our young people.

The Prime Minister highlighted some concrete results arising from the growing Uganda-Japan economic partnership.

These, she said, include: 

 Selamat N. Vanilla Co. Limited, a Japanese firm, partnering with Uganda’s Gourmet Gardens to add value to Ugandan vanilla for export

  Gorilla Highlands Coffee, a Ugandan company which has established a direct market presence in Japan

Africa Runners Company (ARC) is now promoting Uganda’s unique tourism to the Japanese market

 The planned Skeepon fertiliser factory developed by Japan’s AC-Planta

 Saraya Company, currently, exploring partnership to produce matooke products for the Japanese market

Nabanjja invited more Japanese companies to invest in Uganda, outlining the compelling value proposition, including its peace and stability, status as one of the world’s fastest-growing economies (IMF), and strategic location as a gateway to continental African markets.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment, the Prime Minister detailed ambitious plans under Uganda’s Tenfold Growth Strategy to expand the economy to $500 billion by 2040. 

She invited investors to tap into priority sectors such as: Agro-industrialisation; Tourism Development; Mineral Development, Oil and Gas; and Science, Technology, and Innovation.

She reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to maintaining a conducive investment climate and continuing to support investors who choose Uganda as an investment destination. She ended with a welcoming note in Japanese: “Minna-san, Uganda e yōkoso!” (Everyone, welcome to Uganda!).

The audience was treated to a captivating cultural show by the versatile Ndere Troupe.

The embassy statement reaffirmed that " the Uganda National Day at Expo 2025 is a testament to the flourishing relationship between Uganda and Japan, paving the way for increased trade, investment, and mutual prosperity."
