Premier Nabbanja hosts Renowned Economist Prof. Sachs

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja Tuesday held talks with Professor Jeffrey Sachs, a renowned Economics scholar currently on a working visit to Uganda.

Sachs, a world-renowned professor of economics and global leader in sustainable development arrived in Kampala on Sunday for a four-day visit accompanied by his wife Dr Sonia Sachs.

Invited by the Prime Minister, Prof Sachs will have a number of engagements. He is also expected to hold discussions with President Yoweri Museveni and several government officials, including the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Mrs. Janet Museveni. He will also participate in a policy dialogue on SDGs at Makerere University.

Hours after his arrival, Sachs and Nabbanja held a meeting whose participants included ministers: Evelyn Anite (State for Investment and Privatisation, Grace Mary Mugasa (State for Public Service) plus Professor Pamela Mbabazi, the Chairperson of the National Planning Authority.

The Ministers and Prof. Sachs discussed Uganda’s Sustainable Development Agenda implementation progress and pointed out areas that need intervention to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), states a release from OPM.

The release posted on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) also had several photos of the engagements.

He will also meet more political leaders and technical officers to discuss the strategies for accelerating the implementation of the SDGs.

Prof Sachs was invited to Uganda by the Premier after their meeting at the UN SDGs Summit in New York last year.
