Plans for a Thanksgiving gathering slated for March 28 have been postponed, organisers have announced, due to unavoidable circumstances. The event, spearheaded by Pastor Patience Rwabwogo, the lead pastor of Covenant of Nations Church, was expected to bring together Christians from across Uganda to Kololo Independence Grounds for thanksgiving following a peaceful general election. In a statement, the organisers said the decision to postpone the gathering had not been taken lightly, but was necessary under the prevailing circumstances. A new date for the event is yet to be announced.
The event had been positioned as a significant spiritual moment for the country, particularly for the Christian community, which was earlier organised under a similar initiative in 2025 to pray for the nation ahead of elections.
At the time, churches across denominations came together under the theme Light Up Uganda for Jesus and engaged in intercession, repentance, and prayer for peace, stability, and unity.
According to Pastor Patience, the March 28 gathering was intended to return to the same venue, this time to offer gratitude for what participants believe was an answered prayer.
“We felt it was fitting for the Body of Christ to come back and give thanks to God for bringing the nation through the election season peacefully,” she said in her earlier message.
Allen Kagina, also a co-ordinator of the event, emphasised that the development should not be viewed as a cancellation but rather a temporary adjustment, assuring believers that a new date will be communicated soon.
“This is not a cancellation, but a postponement to allow for better coordination and full participation of all key stakeholders. We remain committed to this national thanksgiving, and in the coming days, we shall announce a new date for the gathering,” she said.
Pastor Wilson Mugarura, one of the event’s coordinators, noted that given the gathering’s significance as a thanksgiving for the election period, organisers found it necessary to reschedule the event.
