Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) on Thursday, March 5, 2026, said joint security operations conducted across the Kampala Metropolitan area have led to the arrest of 90 suspects linked to various criminal activities, including robbery, narcotics trafficking, and theft.

Racheal Kawala, the KMP police spokesperson, said that in Mukono district, police recovered six motorcycles suspected to have been used in robberies and arrested nine suspects during an intelligence-led operation carried out in the early hours of Thursday morning at about 3:00am.

The joint operation was conducted in Bajjo following several complaints from members of the public about a group of individuals reportedly attacking residents both during the day and at night.

Intelligence indicated that the suspects were hiding in an unfinished house in the area. A police task team swiftly responded and arrested six suspects from the said premises.

In Kira division, Kawala said the operation conducted in Mbalwa, Namugongo, targeted suspected narcotics dealers. Three suspects were arrested while processing opium into sticks, allegedly for sale to criminal elements.

“Meanwhile, in Katwe division, operations conducted along Salama Road in the Kisangani slums and surrounding areas led to the arrest of 64 suspects suspected to be involved in various criminal activities,” Kawala said.

At Central Police Station Kampala (CPS), police officers were deployed on Wednesday (March 4) at about 7:00 pm around Mukwano roundabout and the Punjani stretch despite heavy rains and traffic congestion.

“The deployment targeted criminals who exploit traffic jams to steal motor vehicle parts, snatch phones, and bags from motorists and pedestrians,” she added.

In Entebbe, Kawala said operations conducted in Nakawuka resulted in the arrest of 14 suspects.

“In total, 90 suspects were arrested during the coordinated night operations. All suspects are currently in police custody pending prosecution,” she said.

The arrests bring to over 5,000 suspects security agencies have arrested within two months of operations in the wake of increased crime in different parts of KMP.

While addressing the media on Monday, Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said, "between February 23 and February 28, 2026, police with the assistance of other security agencies conducted 47 intelligence led and disruptive operations nationwide, netting a total of 1,185 suspects, with KMP East, North and South accounting for the largest share of arrests as they sustained nightly crackdowns on black spots linked to robberies, phone snatching and narcotics abuse.”
