The Uganda Police Force is reviewing the nationwide deployment of Special Police Constables (SPCs) to enhance operational efficiency, police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma has announced.

Speaking during the weekly police briefing at Naguru, Rusoke explained that SPCs are contractual police officers, typically engaged on one or two-year contracts, depending on the operational needs of the force.

“Recently, police management decided to conduct a review of SPCs. Some will be retained, and those we feel we no longer have business with will be disengaged,” Rusoke said.

He clarified that the decision to retain or disengage SPCs would be based on an evaluation of operational requirements, performance, and budgetary considerations.

“SPCs have been instrumental in supporting police operations, especially during major security events, public order management, and supplementing the regular police force,” he said.
