Police probe Kampala, Wakiso crashes

Traffic Police Director AIGP Lawrence Niwabiine said investigations into the Kiryandongo crash are ongoing, with support from experts from the Ministry of Works and Transport.

Niwabiine urged motorists to exercise caution along the Kampala–Gulu highway, among other highways and roads which has been identified as one of the country’s most dangerous routes due to its narrow structure and heavy night traffic.

KAMPALA - Police in the districts of Kampala and Wakiso say they are investigating two road crashes reported on November 11 and 12, respectively.

One involved an Elf truck registration UA 525AN at the Mukwano Roundabout, while another occurred in Wakiso town, where a vehicle rammed into a house.

The Wakiso crash scene is being managed by the district Police as officers await a full report.

The two crashes come barely three weeks after the Kiryandongo highway disaster that claimed 46 lives. Police said one body remains unclaimed, though a DNA sample has been preserved by the Police Forensic Directorate for future identification.

Traffic Police Director AIGP Lawrence Niwabiine said investigations into the Kiryandongo crash are ongoing, with support from experts from the Ministry of Works and Transport.

The accident involved four vehicles: two passenger buses belonging to Nile Star Coaches and Planet Bus Company, a Toyota Surf, and a Tata lorry loaded with charcoal.

Preliminary findings indicate that reckless overtaking led to the head-on collision.

Niwabiine urged motorists to exercise caution along the Kampala–Gulu highway, among other highways and roads which has been identified as one of the country’s most dangerous routes due to its narrow structure and heavy night traffic.
