Police on Friday, July 26, 2024, said they were probing a tragic incident in which an entrance gate collapsed killing two construction workers in Kyengera Town Council.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said the incident took place on Thursday, July 24, 2024, at the residence of Julius Mubir, located at Katale Cell, Bunamwaya Parish in Kyengera town council.

"An entrance gate collapsed, tragically killing two construction workers on site," he said, and identified the victims as Joseph Mugerwa a 22-year-old resident of Nyanama and David Semakula who were working on the entrance gate when the support pillars are suspected to have failed, causing a heavy slab to fall on them.

"Despite the immediate efforts of the community members who pulled them out, the two men were pronounced dead at the scene," he added.

Police from Ngobe, Kajjansi, and the Fire Prevention and Rescue services arrived promptly to assess the situation and determine the cause of the gate’s collapse.

"The bodies of the deceased have been transported to the City Mortuary at Mulago for postmortem examination. We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased. Our team, with the assistance of experts, is conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to this tragic event," Owoyesigyire noted.

He said further details will be provided as the investigation progresses.
