KITGUM - Police in Kitgum are investigating the sudden death of Rodgers Abaho, a 38-year-old intern doctor at St Joseph's Hospital.
According to Aswa East Police spokesperson Joe Oloya, Abaho reported for duty on March 24, 2025, at 8:00 a.m. and worked until 6:00pm.
Later that night, at 10:45 p.m., he was called to the maternity ward to attend to a mother experiencing post-delivery complications.
He later summoned his colleague, Dr Komakech, for assistance before retiring to his residence at midnight.
However, at 2:53 a.m., Abaho suddenly fell ill and sought medical attention at the outpatient department, complaining of rashes and difficulty breathing.
Despite efforts by fellow doctors to stabilise him, he passed away at 4:23am.
A death inquiry has been opened, and his body has been transferred to Gulu Referral Hospital for an autopsy. His relatives in Ishaka, Bushenyi, have called for a thorough investigation into the cause of his death.
Authorities are now awaiting postmortem results to establish whether his sudden illness was caused by an underlying medical condition or external factors. Investigations are ongoing.
