Police in Hoima city have arrested one of their own following a fatal shooting on Easter Sunday after a violent altercation between two motorcyclists in Lusaka Middle zone, Kasasiro cell.

The suspect, Detective Assistant Inspector of Police (D/AIP) Reuben Kwihangana, attached to Hoima Rural Police Station, allegedly shot and killed an unidentified male adult during a scuffle that erupted after their motorcycles collided at around 10:00pm.

According to Julius Hakiza, spokesperson for the Albertine Region Police, preliminary investigations indicate that Kwihangana, who was armed with a pistol at the time, shot the victim in the head, killing him instantly.

“The officer had a confrontation with the deceased after their motorcycles knocked each other. Unfortunately, it escalated, and he shot the man dead,” Hakiza said.

Police have since recovered the officer’s pistol, which contained live ammunition and 12 cartridges. A red Bajaj motorcycle, registration number UFE 155P, believed to have been ridden by the deceased, was also recovered at the scene.

Hoima City Police, led by District Police Commander Jimmy Tumwine, visited and documented the scene.

The body of the deceased was conveyed to the Hoima city mortuary for a post-mortem and to facilitate identification efforts.

Hakiza said a case of murder has been registered and investigations are ongoing.

“The suspect is currently in custody as inquiries continue. We shall provide further details in due course,” he noted.
