Police in the Kampala Metropolitan area say efforts are underway to apprehend assailants who shot dead a driver.

Adaca Sabina aka Alele Francis, 36, a driver with Khan Logistics and a resident of Kyebando Kisalosalo Zone, was killed at about 7:30pm on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

The shooting happened after he was allegedly intercepted by an individual identified as Achol, a security guard and a resident of the same area.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy spokesperson of Kampala Metropolitan area, said in a statement on Thursday that the victim was shot around the chest/heart while on the phone, attempting to exit a corridor.

“The assailant fled the scene with the weapon, leaving Sabina in a pool of blood,” he said.

“It has been alleged that Sabina was involved in extramarital affairs, which may have contributed to this unfortunate incident. However, it is imperative to allow the ongoing investigation by the authorities to uncover all relevant facts and motives surrounding this heinous crime,” he added.

According to Owoyesigyire, the scene of the crime was promptly secured by law enforcement, where thorough documentation and collection of evidence were conducted.

He added that the body of the deceased was transferred to KCCA mortuary for a post-mortem.

“Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and loved ones of Sabina during this difficult time. We assure the public that every effort is being made to apprehend the suspect and recover the weapon used in this senseless act of violence.

“We urge anyone with information related to this incident to come forward and assist the authorities in their investigation. Further updates will be provided as the investigation continues.”

Crime by shooting 

According to the Annual Crime Report 2023, a total of 300 cases of murder by shooting were reported to the Police countrywide in 2023, an increase from 279 cases reported in 2022, giving a 7.5% increase in the reported cases in this category countrywide.

Out of the total cases reported, 57 cases were taken to court, 73 cases were not proceeded with and 170 cases are still under inquiry according to the police.

A total of 330 persons were shot dead, of whom 298 were male adults, 25 were Female Adults 06 male Juveniles while 01 was a female Juvenile.

By the end of 2023, 81 cases of murder by shooting were still pending in Court awaiting trial.
