Police in Kikuube district are investigating circumstances under which a man ended up dead during an alleged operation by National Forestry Authority (NFA) operation.
During the tragic shooting, the man's son survived but with serious injuries.
Ronald Munyasonza, a resident of Rwekobe a sub-village who was believed to be in his 50s, was fatally shot as NFA officers reportedly conducted an operation in Bugoma Forest Reserve in Kikuube.
Felix Akankwasa, the Rwekobe village chairperson, said the alleged shooting happened on Sunday at around 2pm.
He said NFA officials raided the home of Munyasonza, whom they suspected of having sacks of charcoal from the forest reserve.
During the engagement, one of the NFA personnel allegedly fatally shot Munyashonza. His son, Bosco Tuikunde, was reportedly shot in the leg.
The actual circumstances surrounding the incident are not known.
Julius Hakiiza, the Albertine Police spokesperson, said an officer from Kyarushesha Police Post in Butoole parish in Kyangwali sub-county rushed to the scene after receiving an alert about the incident.
He added that investigations have since begun.
When contacted for comment, Boaz Basigirenda, the NFA range manager for the Budongo system range, said the matter is being handled by the Police and called for calm.
