The police in Tororo are continuing their search for unidentified robbers who made off with a bag containing sh50.2m from an Indian businessman in a daring daytime robbery just outside a bank.
The incident occurred outside a branch whose name has been withheld to avoid compromising ongoing investigations.
The victim, 67-year-old Atara Rajesh Prabhudasbhai, was en route to deposit the money on behalf of Dattani Distributors Company Ltd when he was attacked at around 1:30pm on April 7, 2025.
According to police reports, the suspects escaped via the Tororo–Jinja highway in a white Toyota Mark II. However, the vehicle’s number plate was not clearly captured by CCTV footage.
Scene of crime officers (SOCO) responded to the scene and recorded statements from eyewitnesses. Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) analysts are now reviewing the footage, while communication has been made to the Flying Squad and Busia CCTV teams to support the investigation.
Police have opened a case file under CRB 270/2025 and launched intelligence-led operations aimed at identifying and arresting the suspects.
