Police have commended the ongoing presidential campaign activities for remaining largely peaceful and said security forces are maintaining professionalism and restraint despite provocations.

Speaking during a media briefing on Monday, October 27, 2025, Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma said officers deployed across the country are in constant communication with their commanders to ensure that political events remain orderly.

“There is demonstrable professionalism and good communication between command and tactical forces on the ground,” Kituuma said.

He added, “The candidates are generally compliant. Of course, there are provocations here and there, but we study and weigh how to ensure that we do not antagonise them. We engage the candidates and their committees to realign their activities.”

He said the Police recognise that the election environment can be tense, but officers have tried to act with restraint even in challenging situations.

“Our officers are dealing with highly demanding operations, but so far, they have shown professionalism,” he added.

Denied access

Kituuma also addressed concerns that some candidates were allegedly denied access to registration or campaign centres.

He urged any aggrieved aspirants to use the official redress mechanisms provided by the Electoral Commission.

“If any candidate is saying they were denied access, let them appeal against that decision,” he said.

He added: “The Electoral Commission has put up mechanisms to address such concerns. Please utilise the systems and the law in place, and you will be listened to.”

He noted that while police continue to focus on election policing, operations against other crimes are still active and will be communicated to the public more regularly.
