The Uganda Police Force has reportedly agreed to carry out fresh recruitment of probationer police constables (PPCs) in specifically Karamoja after local leaders there protested the inclusion of names of people who were not from the sub-region.

Napak district Woman MP Faith Nakut confirmed the development on Thursday.

Although Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga was unreachable for comment on the development, a Police officer from Karamoja said they had been told new names would be provided following protests from local leaders.

“The names that had been published as candidates who had gone through have been recalled,” said the Police officer.

Meanwhile, MP Nakut said the Napak district chairperson and herself — accompanied by the NRM vice-chairperson for Karamoja Simon Aleper — visited the Police headquarters to address the recent recruitment "that had raised an uproar in our districts".

During their meeting, she said, it was acknowledged that indeed there were anomalies in the application process that saw local leaders recommend some candidates who don't hail from Karamoja.

“Additionally, some complainants hadn't met minimum requirements," said Nakut.

"We agreed to re-submit applications of qualifying candidates within the next five days. This grace period has been opened to Napak and all other districts of Karamoja."

To qualify for the shortlist one must;

▪️ Have at least four credits in O'Level

▪️ Have a credit score in English and at least a pass in Mathematics

▪️ Not exceed the age of 23 at the time of application

▪️ Have a national ID or awaiting an ID if registered with National Identification Registration Authority (NIRA)

▪️ Have a letter from their LC1, LC3 and of resident district commissioner

PS: If you sat O'Level in December 2023 and are awaiting a result slip, you can still apply using the testimonial.

April 2 has been set as the deadline for submission of the fresh applications.

The quota allocation per district for PPCs in Karamoja is: Kotido 12, Abim ten (10), Napak nine (9), Amudat eight (8), Kaabong eight (8), Moroto seven (7), Nakapiripirit seven (7), Nabilatuk six (6), and Karenga three (3).

Applicants are required to submit their completed application letter with attendant documents to their respective LC5 chairpersons, who will then hand them over to the LC5 chairperson of Napaka to collectively deliver to Kampala.

Legislator Nakut urged the locals to consult their LC5 chairpersons if they find any challenges in the application process.

“Let the quota not limit you. Let's get as many numbers as we can. Kindly give this matter the urgency it deserves,” she said.

Last Sunday (March 24), the Uganda Police Force released a shortlist of candidates for the position of PPC who were invited for interviews that would begin on April 8.

Police said the upcoming recruitment programme will include a fitness test, aptitude test, oral test and medical examination.
