Two Pakistani nationals who were kidnapped in broad daylight in Luwero district on July 10, 2025, have been rescued by police in Matuga, Wakiso district, with two suspects arrested, authorities have confirmed.

According to Sam Twiineamazima, the police public relations officer for the Savannah Region, the victims — Abaasi Ali and Rashid Ahmed — were abducted on July 10, 2025, at around 12:53pm from Mabanda village, Piida ward, Luwero town council.

“They were kidnapped by four men travelling in a white Toyota Premio with registration number UAM 180R,” Twiineamazima said in a press statement.

“The suspects drove the victims to Matuga along Kasangati Road in Wakiso district and began demanding a ransom of sh20 million from their employer and relative, Lucky Sajid, also a Pakistani investor in Luwero.”

Police said they were alerted and responded immediately.

“Our elite regional Flying Squad, in conjunction with the Territorial Police in Matuga, pursued the suspects. The two victims were rescued, and two suspects were arrested, while the others managed to escape,” Twiineamazima stated.

A case of suspected kidnap has been registered, and police have since recorded statements from relevant witnesses.

The scene was also visited and documented by scene of crime officers (SOCO), he said.

“The hunt for the remaining suspects is ongoing, and inquiries are still at hand,” Twiineamazima added.

The motive behind the abduction is believed to have been financial extortion, though investigators are continuing to probe the incident.
