KAMULI - Kamuli district Police have condemned the murder of two of their own.
Busoga north Police region spokesperson Samson Lubega has identified the deceased officers as Officer in Charge of Kiyunga Police Post, Kamuli Central Police Station, AIP Peter Nambafu and election special Polling constable (SPC) Bakali Mwanje.
“The Police in Kamuli regrets to announce the tragic death of two of its officers following a suspected murder incident that occurred on the night of February 5, 2026, along the Busota-Kisozo road in Naibowa village, Kamuli district,” Lubega said.
The incident occurred on Monday night when Police officers reportedly attempted to recover confiscated fishing nets from fishermen at the landing site.
Lubega told New Vision Online on February 6, that preliminary findings indicate that a day earlier at about 9:00pm, the duo left Kiyunga Police post riding on a motorcycle, heading to Nambafu’s residence.
He added that at approximately 11:00pm, information was received indicating that the bodies of the officers had been discovered along the Buota-Kisozo road.
Police responded promptly, and relevant exhibits were recovered and secured for investigative purposes. He noted that Initial observations suggest that the officers sustained fatal head injuries consistent with a criminal attack.
“We strongly condemn this cowardly act and extend our deepest condolences to the families, relatives, colleagues and friends of the deceased officers. We recognise the pain and loss caused by this incident and assure the public that all necessary efforts are being undertaken to ensure accountability,” he said.
Four deaths in less than a week
The revelation of the death of the duo comes barely a week after Police constable Charles Otirian was killed and Robert Ocana, the officer in charge of Lagara Police Post, was critically injured following violent clashes with fishermen at Odaamu landing site on Lake Kyoga in Anyangan Kateta sub-county, Serere district. Ocana later succumbed to the injuries sustained during the scuffle.
