KAMPALA - The Police in Kampala have arrested two men who are believed to have been part of a group that violently attacked and robbed a man on a street in Kampala mid-this week.

The incident was captured in a video that has since gone viral.

The young man is seen in a video captured on CCTV cameras repeatedly kicking a businessman before making off with his backpack.

In the video, the suspect uses a taekwondo technique— a flying kick — that leaves the businessman in shock and immobile before continuing to kick him.

Mukisa was apprehended on Friday afternoon alongside several other suspects, including Nuru Imam aka Mutanzania, in the Nakivubo channel during a joint security intelligence operation led by the Police's Crime Intelligence Unit.

Mukisa is currently being interrogated by Crime Intelligence operatives at the Central Police Station in Kampala.

The arrests followed a night operation in which various parts of Kampala were combed, resulting in the arrest of over 100 suspects.

The incident was captured in a video that has since gone viral.

The incident

Earlier, Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, said they had launched investigations after a disturbing incident captured on CCTV and circulating on social media.

The footage shows a man identified as Tomson Mugisha, 40, a resident of Kyebando, being assaulted by unidentified assailants around Ben Kiwakuka Street at approximately 8 PM on May 22nd, 2024.

During the attack, Mugisha was robbed of shillings 450,000, a bag containing important documents, keys, and a container.

Besides Mukisa and Imam, two other suspects had earlier been identified and were assisting with the ongoing investigations.

"The police are actively working to trace and apprehend all individuals involved in the assault to bring them to justice" Owoyesigyire said.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police urge the public to remain vigilant and mindful of their surroundings. If anyone witnesses suspicious activities, they are encouraged to make an alarm or notify the police immediately.

Public cooperation is essential in preventing such incidents and ensuring community safety.
