The Police Flying Squad Unit says it has made a breakthrough by arresting a group of five motorcyclists suspected of involvement in robberies and torture of passengers.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga says the suspects operated as a co-ordinated group: "They would send one of their colleagues to lure a client to a particular destination. Once en route, they would intercept the rider and proceed to assault and rob the passenger of their valuables before making a swift escape."

Speaking to journalists at the Police headquarters at Naguru, Kampala, Enanga identified the apprehended suspects as Edirisa Barogore, Rodney Kitimbwa, Farouk Mukiibi, Ashraf Lukenge and Hassan Byabare.

Tragically, Byabare succumbed to injuries sustained from a mob attack, as reported by Enanga.

Enanga linked the gang to a series of follow-home-gate attacks in Makindye division, Kampala particularly targeting Eritrean residents in the area.

“The arrest of these suspects marks a significant victory in the fight against organised crime and law enforcement authorities continue to urge vigilance from the public in reporting suspicious activities,” he said.
