Police arrest 12, recover stolen motorcycles in Natete garage

Police on Tuesday arrested 12 suspects and recovered five stolen motorcycles as they pursued a robbery suspect who had escaped with another stolen bike.

Luke Owoyesigyire, deputy public relations officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, while giving details about the recovery noted that the Police at Wakiso and Bulenga were pleased to announce significant progress in the case of aggravated robbery that was reported today April 2, 2024, involving Felix Muganzi, a 23-year-old boda boda operator.

Owoyesigyire explained that in the early hours of April 2, 2024, Muganzi was subjected to a harrowing ordeal while fulfilling his duties as a boda boda operator.

“Two individuals, identified as Joel Amanya and another known only as Ibrah, hired Muganzi to transport them to Nakuwade area.

However, upon reaching a dimly lit area, they viciously attacked Muganzi with a panga, attempting to rob him of his motorcycle, registration number UEN 484A. During the altercation, Muganzi bravely resisted, managing to overpower one of the assailants, Amanya, with the assistance of local residents. Regrettably, the other perpetrator fled the scene with Muganzi’s motorcycle,” he added.

Owoyesigyire said the swift response of the Bulenga Police Station led to the apprehension of Amanya and the recovery of Muganzi’s stolen motorcycle.

“Additionally, during the investigation, the police discovered a cache of five suspected stolen motorcycles and eight motorcycle number plates at Ali Muganda’s Garage in Natete.

As part of our ongoing efforts to ensure justice prevails, the following individuals were arrested to assist in the investigation: Peter Buye (18 years old), Enock Kizza (18 years old), Isma Kayondo (17 years old),  Edward Ssenyondo (18 years old), Joseph Sekiwala (19 years old), Mahadhi Ssempijja (20 years old), - Swabul Luwaga (15 years old),  Christopher Lujja (19 years old), Muzamir Sseruga (17 years old), Dan  Mukuye (22 years old) and Abdul Birungi Mutwalib (17 years old),” Owoyesigyire stated.

He assured the public that, “investigations into this matter are ongoing, and we are committed to ensuring that all individuals involved in this criminal activity are brought to justice. 

The owner of Muganda Ali Garage, identified as Ali Muganda, remains at large, and efforts to locate and apprehend him are underway,” he noted.

He said Police at Bulenga and Wakiso extend their gratitude to the community for their cooperation and assistance in apprehending the suspects and recovering the stolen property.

“We urge anyone with information regarding this case or similar incidents to come forward and assist law enforcement in our efforts to maintain peace and security in our community,” Owoyesigyire said.
