The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), under the leadership of the Chief of the Uganda People's Defence Forces (CDF) Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, is grieving the loss of its Deputy Spokesperson for Buganda, Tamale Mirundi.
Speaking to the press on Thursday, August 15, the PLU central Committee, at their offices in Naguru, Michael Nuwagira Kaguta, known as Toyota and the National Vice Chairman of PLU, expressed profound sorrow and also pledged support from the PLU family for Mirundi’s funeral.
At the time of his death, he was the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) spokesperson for the Buganda region.
Nuwagira reflected on Mirundi’s significant role within the organization saying, “Tamale Mirundi was a man who always spoke his mind. He was a leader who exemplified patriotism and commitment, supporting both the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and PLU. His intelligence and forthright nature made him a remarkable figure, and his passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt. We want to assure his family of our unwavering support during this difficult time. We also encourage all our supporters who can attend the memorial in Kalisizo on Sunday to come and demonstrate their solidarity.”
Balaam Barugahara, Minister of State for youth and children and also the PLU Vice Chairman for Central Uganda, described Mirundi as a “media warrior, fighter, and liberator,” emphasizing his dedication to transparency and free speech.
“Tamale was a staunch advocate for General Muhoozi Kainerugaba and believed in open discourse on matters he felt strongly about. His contributions to media and marketing were immense, and his legacy will endure. As PLU, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and assure them that his fight and cause will not be forgotten. We are also grateful to President Museveni for his generosity, covering hospital expenses and providing meals until Sunday," he added.
Frank Gashumba, the PLU Vice Chairman for Buganda, also honored Mirundi’s long-standing support for General Kainerugaba and his extensive knowledge.
“Tamale was a pillar of strength and wisdom within our ranks. His support and insights were invaluable from the very beginning, and his loss is a significant blow to our team," Gashumba said.
Michael Katungi, the Director of External Affairs for PLU, praised Mirundi’s courageous journalism and steadfast principles saying, “Tamale was a bold and principled journalist who stood firm for what he believed in.
His fearless defense of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) revolution and its ideals will be remembered and celebrated.”
