Iteso Cultural Union (ICU) has unveiled plans to preserve and promote Ateso language that is slowly eroding among the young Ateso-speaking communities.

This was disclosed by the Iteso Paramount Chief, Emorimor Paul Sande Emolot Etomeileng, during a press conference in Tororo district recently.

Emolot says this follows a concerning trend of Teso community members being assimilated into other local languages as they do not appreciate their own Ateso language.

He adds that a team of elders will be moving from one clan to another sensitising people on the importance of speaking their local language.

Emolot adds that they will also use the same opportunity to eliminate bad cultural practices among the Iteso communities like the notorious youth gangs who are terrorising the locals.

He, therefore, called on the general public in Teso sub-region to ensure that they support the institution to achieve this course.
