President Yoweri Museveni is presiding over the International Labour Day national celebrations taking place at St. Leo’s College Kyegobe playgrounds in Fort Portal City.
The President who arrived a few minutes before 11:30 am was welcomed by several government officials and labour movements’ representatives.
The President started with the inspection of exhibition stalls before he stood in honor of anthems before the parade.
At 11:38 the commandant of the Joint Forces mounted parade, Capt. P.J Egulu invited the President and the Commander-in-Chief, to be mounted atop a military parade jeep for parade inspection.
The religious leaders in their ecumenical prayers prayed to God to unite the nation around the principles of justice, peace, love, faith, and ethics of hard work, among others.
The 2024 celebrations are structured under the theme; “Improving Access to Labour Justice: A Prerequisite for Increased Productivity.”
Through the Presidential Awards Act, of 2001, the President is to award 58 medals to people for distinguished service to the country.
