YUMBE | PATIENTS | SUPPORTED

At least 75 patients admitted to Yumbe Health Center IV got help from Yumbe Senior Secondary School Alumni, the umbrella organization for the school's former students.

The clothing, soap bars, sugar, and other commodities were donated as part of an effort by the alumni to restore the school's former splendor.

Sick children in the pediatric department, some adults in the general ward, and women in the maternity unit are among the recipients.

The offerings, according to Dr. Yassin Amandu, the chair of Yumbe SSS Alumni, are a component of their cooperative social obligation as students who attended the district's schools.

He points out that the district's community either directly or indirectly contributed to their achievement, therefore giving back to them is extremely deserving.

"We felt it was important to give back to the communities, especially those in need because they had helped us succeed while we were in school," he said.

While presenting the gifts, Dr. Amandu urged the recipients to make sure their children receive a good education so they can grow up to be contributing members of society.

The nurse in charge at Yumbe Health Center IV, Zainab Ojaku, thanks the Alumni for their assistance.

According to her, it will always be very difficult to understand life in a health center until one visits the facilities.

Without visiting the hospital, you won't understand how difficult life is for the patients, for whom an offer like this is always very helpful, she claims.

Ojaku urges the people to support individuals in medical facilities with whatever resources they may have.

Beneficiaries speak out

Residents of Lokopio village in Lori sub-county, Yumbe district, praise the Alumni for the offer, including Zubeir Kujo.

According to him, it's always very difficult to afford sugar and soap for their daily life due to rising commodity prices.

I sometimes forgo tea and wait for lunch because I can't afford sugar every day, the man says. "I sometimes buy sugar for sh1000 and it's taken just in a day."

The offers, according to Zubeda Stima, a resident of Kuru sub-county in the maternity ward, will spare them from having to make the same purchases for at least four days while they are in the facility.

When the soap had run out, Zubeda, who underwent a scissor section, adds that she obtains the new bar at the appropriate time.

"My soap ran out, and I was wondering how to obtain another one. I'm relieved with this offer," she remarked.
