Pastor Jessica Kayanja, the Founder and President of the Girl Power Ministries, has organised an Altar Prayer Day ahead of International Women’s Day celebrations, where she has rallied women and mothers in Uganda to turn up in big numbers.

The Annual Prayer Day, celebrated at the Miracle Centre Cathedral in Rubaga, Kampala city, will be held on March 07, 2026.

During the special prayers, she wants the women to petition God the Almighty, among other things, to protect Ugandan domestic workers stuck in the Middle East countries because of the ongoing US and Israel-Iran war.

“The spirit of death hovers over the whole world now, especially in the Middle East, and mothers in Uganda are in pain for our children still held in the middle because of the ongoing war in the Gulf States. We need to pray to God to protect them and return them safely,” she told journalists on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the Girl Power Ministries offices located at the Miracle Centre Cathedral.

Using the story of God who saved the Israelites from the death of their firstborn during the Passover (Exodus 12), Pastor Kayanja said that ahead of the International Women’s Day celebrations on Sunday, March 8, women ought to dedicate special prayers and petition God to listen to their cries.

International Women’s Day will be celebrated on March 8 at Kololo Ceremonial  Grounds.

“Let us gather and pray to God to spare our children. This is possible, we want them to return safely and alive. They went to search for greener pastures, to search for a future and a livelihood in Kuwait, Dubai (United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, but they are stuck in the middle of the war,” she said, adding that it is only God who can protect them and guarantee them good health and life as they toil in the diaspora.

“We are used to petitioning our husbands and our bosses, but there are issues that go beyond what a husband and a boss can do, and that is why we are coming here on March 07, to petition God Almighty, mostly for life and health and for restoration for those who feel that they have lost out,” she explained.

According to the day’s programme, gates at the Miracle Centre Cathedral will open at 9am, and it will be a day of praise and worship and calling out to God.

“We call upon people to come fasted; we will serve food at the end of the prayers and break the fast together. I feel this is a time also for us women to thank God for the gift of nurturing humans and carrying life for nine months,” she said.

Pastor Jessica Kayanja said the day will also be a time to be thankful to God as women, as mothers, and helpers who stand with their husbands as God instructed Eve in the Garden of Eden.

She thanked the government for promoting gender equality and gender balance, but said that as born-again Christians and as people of the word, they were more inclined to gender balance, which she said leads to equal representation. Citing the example of Eve, who was appointed Adam’s helper in the garden of Eden and Deborah, a woman who became a judge, mother and a warrior, who represent true representations of women models.

The Girl Power Ministries:

Speaking about the Girl Power Ministries’ contribution towards women, Pastor Kayanja said that as a Church, she has used the organisation to help women in many aspects, including imparting life skills to school dropouts and all sorts of women. These include street girls and prostitutes who are disadvantaged.

Some of them, she explained, especially those who have gone through the Kapeeka Orphanage managed by the Church, have been sponsored to attain formal education up to university level. Many of them, she explained, have acquired degrees and are now employed in various professions, including magistrates and pilots.

The Girl Power Ministries has also rescued and resettled women who have been abused, and others rehabilitated and are now working to earn a decent living. Others have attained skills in various fields and have been empowered to start their own ventures.

She explained, “The Girl Power is a ministry that caters for the holistic needs of a woman, the body, mind and spirit. These include women who have been abused in homes and marriages, young ladies who have been on the streets and those who have not enjoyed their rights.”.
