KAMPALA - Parliament has asked the government to reduce taxes on Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras to enable more Ugandans to install them to stem increasing cases of insecurity.

The House led by Speaker Anita Among on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, made the call while paying tribute to the slain Ndiga clan leader Daniel Bbosa.

Bbosa was killed on Sunday evening in Kikandwa Zone, Lungujja Parish, Lubaga Division.

Police said in a statement that a firearm used by the assailants was recovered as investigations into the murder continue.

“I want to call upon the relevant security agencies, to thoroughly investigate the cause of this incident. In addition, we need to ensure that Police make sure that all the CCTV cameras installed around are operational. We may just be looking at CCTV cameras when they aren’t working," Among said.

She urged Ugandans with financial capacity to install CCTV cameras in their homes.

“I want to plead with all Ugandans who can be able to afford CCTV cameras to equally put cameras around their homes but Government should also come up with an incentive by reducing the cost of the CCTV cameras so that everybody is able to have the CCTV,” Among added.

Bbosa was fatally shot by assailants as he was approaching his residence. The assailants, riding on a motorcycle, opened fire at Bbosa's motor vehicle, registration number UAH 637X.

During the heinous act, a vigilant local resident bravely intervened, knocking down the assailants' motorcycle and alerting the community. Swiftly, members of the community mobilized, leading to a confrontation with the assailants.

Mob justice ensued, resulting in the death of one assailant at the scene, while the other remains in critical condition.
