Parliament moves to settle decades-old EAC pension claims

The Bill, once seen as a dormant dossier buried under years of legislative inertia, was tabled for its first reading in Parliament by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of East African Community Affairs (EAC), Rebecca Kadaga, on 16 October 2024.

During an appearance before the sector committee on Wednesday, 11 December 2024, Deputy Attorney General Jackson Kafuuzi disclosed that while Kenya and Tanzania domesticated the agreement, Uganda instead made adjustments to its pension law to cater for former EAC employees’ pensions.
