The national para-badminton has been urged to put on a strong and perfect show in Egypt to earn maximum points to qualify for the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

A contingent of seven players including five women and two men was flagged off by National Council of Sports (NCS) administrative officer James Kasumba who said the government has met all the necessary requirements for the team to travel on Monday to Egypt.

“Badminton is one of the priority sports in the country according to our setting. That is why we have to ensure the team goes for the competitions that include the Commonwealth Games, the Olympics and the All -Africa Games,” noted Kasumba.

Kasumba who represented the  NCS General Secretary, Dr. Bernard Ogwel urged the players to be focused, work hard, disciplined and committed to raise the national flag up but also endeavor to become world champions.

The players pledged to put maximum effort to finish on the podium as they target to qualify for Paris.

The CEO for UBA, Simon Mugabi said that the association is confident of the players because they stand in good positions on the continent.

“At the continent they are in first and second positions. We expect good results in Cairo as we wait for the last qualification event which is the World Championship in Thailand next month,” noted Mugabi.

The men team has captain Ali Mukasa Kibirango and Hassan Mubiru  while the women include Sarah Nazziwa, Rita Asiimwe, Rose Nansereko, Sumin Mutesi and Elizabeth Mwesigwa.
