Police have intensified operations against criminal elements in the Kampala Metropolitan area, arresting 48 suspects in a pre-dawn sweep in Kajjansi and preparing to arraign another group of 14 individuals linked to violent robberies that marred President Yoweri Museveni’s nomination event on Saturday, June 28, 2025.

Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, said the Kajjansi operation was part of routine intelligence-led patrols aimed at dismantling criminal networks.

“At 3:30am, our officers conducted an operation targeting black spots in Lweza and surrounding areas. A total of 48 suspects were arrested from three locations: 18 in Muchanga, 20 in Kajjansi, and 10 at Sanyu Brothel, a known crime hotspot,” Owoyesigyire said.

He revealed that several suspects in Muchanga had disguised themselves as bottle and dustbin collectors during the day, only to carry out attacks and robberies under the cover of darkness.

During the operation, Police recovered housebreaking tools, including two pliers, three testers, and three knives.

The suspects, aged between 17 and 23 years, are currently detained at Bwebajja and Lubowa Police Stations pending further investigation.
