Over 38,000 domestic electricity users, 340 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and industrial customers in Busunjju and Mityana are set to benefit from the upgrade of the area substation.
The residents here have in recent past experienced non-stop load shedding resulting from overloading with the demand for last-mile connectivity growing by the day.
“Today is a great day because the intervention that we have made at Busunjju Substation brings an end to load shedding which our customers have suffered for some time. The development will address voltage issues and ensure reliable electricity supply to our customers in Mityana,” Eng. Deusdedit Magezi Umeme’s Principal Engineer for the area noted.
Thomas Tondo, the Umeme’s Operations Manager for Mityana said the development brings great relief to over 38,000 domestic electricity users and 340 SME and industrial customers in Busunjju and Mityana.
The works entailed building an alternative supply to Busunju and Mityana substation and refurbishment of Corner Clerk T-off.
Peter Kaujju, the Umeme’s Head of Communications says electricity demand is growing at a terrific rate of over 10% and that they are keen to ensure reliable supply to the 2 million customers now on the national grid and more in the pipeline.
“Technology is a big driver in serving our customers. We are witnessing increasing demand for electricity which calls for innovation and creativity like self-service across the touch points including application for power to deliver efficiently but also ensure great customer experience,” Kaujju said.
