Over 14million Ugandans vaccinated against COVID-19

The minister for health Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng has revealed that 14,054,059 people in Uganda have so far been vaccinated against COVID-19, out of whom, 20,758 have gone ahead to receive booster doses. 

Minister Aceng made the remarks on Wednesday while receiving a donation of 1,951,200doses of Johnson and Johnson vaccine from the government of Spain at the National Medical Stores (NMS) in Entebbe.

The donation from Spain made a total of 44 donated consignments of COVID-19 vaccines since March 2021, and to a total of 2,944,800 doses of the same vaccine from the governments of France, Norway and now Spain. 

"To date, Uganda has received a total of 6,864,960 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine, 1,600,000 doses of Sinovac vaccine, 4,855,320 doses of Moderna and 11,765,520 d0ses of Pfizer," intimated minister Aceng. 

She further revealed that another consignment of Johnson and Johnson will be received from the US government on Thursday.

While handing over the donated vaccines at the NMS on Wednesday, Jaime Fernandez Rua, the representative of the Spanish embassy in Nairobi said, the government of Spain has so far donated 25million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to African countries, whereas it has been the first time in Uganda. 

"Spain has been one of the most affected countries in the world where tens of thousands of Spaniards have died, usually in tragic circumstances of isolation and loneliness," Fernandez expressed.

He urged Uganda to always count on Spain as a reliable partner that believes in multilateralism as the way to effectively address the common problem and against future pandemics such as COVID-19.
