KAMPALA - Over 1.3 million learners, including those in primary and secondary schools, have so far registered for the final national examinations this year, New Vision Online has learnt.
The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) says a total of 1,372,015 candidates have so far registered for the three levels: Primary, O' and A'Level.
According to UNEB, 809,384 of these are Primary Leaving Examination candidates, 404,682 are for Uganda Certificate of Education (O'Level), while 157,949 are Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education candidates (A'Level).
The revelations are contained in a UNEB statement signed by spokesperson Jeniffer Kalule Musamba, issued on June 13, 2025.
Registration deadline looms
Kalule also appealed to school heads of examination centres who have not yet registered all their learners to do so before midnight on June 15, 2025.
"The fees for this window of normal registration have been maintained at 34,000/= for the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE), 164,000/= for the Uganda Certificate of Education(UCE), and 186,000/= for the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE)," the statement reads.
According to Musamba, for learners who may miss to be registered during this time, a period has been set for late registration, which will attract a surcharge.
"Heads of Centres of government-aided schools are advised to ensure that all their learners are fully registered during this period because the government will not pay the surcharges".
Accuracy key
The spokesperson has also appealed to the school heads to ensure accuracy while capturing the learners' biodata while registering them.
"Verify the accuracy of the data submitted. They should look out for the spelling and order of names, date of birth as per the UNEB prescribed format of Date/Month/ Year, gender, institutional choices, and ensure that the correct high-resolution photograph is attached for each of the candidates."
