There is so much excitement amongst the community and local leaders in Maracha district following the donation of relief food support from the Office of the Prime Minister.

The leaders on the morning of Saturday, April 27, witnessed offloading of food relief items delivered to the district headquarters from the Office of the Prime Minister which includes maize flour and beans.

A total of 30 tons of food relief which was delivered included 20 tons of maize flour and 10 tons of beans and the items are expected to benefit 744 households which were last year affected by hailstorms in Tara sub-county, Maracha East constituency.

The hail that swept through Tara sub-county on August 28, 2023, destroyed multiple acres of both food and cash crops, killing animals, but mostly affected the four parishes of Anyivu, Ofusa, Vura and Ombavu.

Maracha deputy resident district commissioner, Monica Koliba Kotevu, thanked the government for considering their report about the tragedy which left several households without tangible solutions.

Maracha district chairperson Stephen Obitre hailed the media for the exposure and support which materialised in the support.

Obitre is hopeful that the relief items will strengthen their relationship and trust with the community.

Tara sub-county chief Henry Obeti Aliti recounted the widespread destruction which he said greatly affected production in Tara sub-county which has been the food basket for the entire Maracha and other neighbouring districts like Koboko and Terego.

Acqulino Obega, the Tara sub-county chairperson, gave prior warning to the beneficiaries against the sale of relief food items saying strategic plans have been drawn to detect such vices and deal with the perpetrators accordingly.

The relief items are expected to be distributed to the beneficiaries next week.
