The joint forces of Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Armed Forces for the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) operating under the Codename Operation Shujaa on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, killed the Allied Democratic Forces terror group Somali Commander.

Director Information UPDF Land Forces Lt col Chris Magezi confirmed the killing saying, “A Somali ADF platoon commander identified as 'Issa' was this afternoon put out of action by UPDF Operation Shujaa forces in an ambush south of the Busunga/Nobili border. ADF continues to lose many fighters as a result of Operation Shujaa. Bravo UPDF!”

Issa becomes the second Somali ADF commander to be killed since March this year.

In March this year, Brig. Gen Felix Kulayigye announced the Joint Forces had killed Abu Aden, an ADF commander of Somali origin in a battle at Malulu, seven kilometers North West of Boga town.

“This achievement followed a human intelligence report about ADF terrorists’ presence in the area, who were asking for directions to Mitego within the same area of operations,” Brig. Gen. Kulayigye said.

In January this year, ADF Commander Benjamin Kisokeranio was arrested by the Congolese Army At Vira.

Kisokeranio alias Ben had been in charge of intelligence.

In November last year, the two armies launched a joint operation against the terrorists after a spate of bomb attacks.

After the November twin bombings at the Kampala Central Police Station and Parliament Avenue, President Yoweri Museveni swore to pursue the terrorists into the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The joint forces have since then overrun the ADF terrorist camps and are still pursuing them deeper into the DRC jungles.
